These sticks are painted glass replicas of an original wooden pointing stick that I got on a trip to North Korea. They were used in each of the many museums we visited to direct guests toward what they should be looking at and away from what they shouldn't.
The replicas are made from glass, and if used to point too decisively at anything would shatter.
